Yum

I got to do the coolest thing yesterday. I got to walk out my back door, go to my garden, pull some ears of corn off their stalks, bring them inside and make them for dinner. How cool is that??

I am so ridiculously excited about this, I can barely stand it. How geeky is that? Eating corn I grew with my own hands makes me indescribably happy. While the tomatoes are good, for some reason the corn is a bigger deal to me. And it’s awesome.

Yesterday during the day, I took Steven to get a new pet. His goldfish died and while he really wanted to get a leopard gecko or a bearded dragon, he settled on hermit crabs. After I explained to him that neither of the lizards could possibly live in a 5 gallon tank, he decided that the hermit crabs would be okay. He picked out 2, we bought bedding, food, dishes, extra shells and came home to set it up.

It’s weird, back in my day you got hermit crabs with regular, normal shells. Now they’re all painted and covered in sequins & googly eyes – it’s kind of odd. I like them better in normal everyday shells. I hope we can keep them alive. Apparently, you have to keep the humidity and temperature at tropical levels and I’m finding that difficult. The humidity just won’t stay up there. We’ll see what happens.

I got word 2 days ago that my biological father died. I wasn’t expecting it to happen so quickly. A bit surprising. I didn’t follow through with contacting him or anything. I’m not sad or anything. I feel for his family who’ve been there with him, but it’s almost as if I’m not affected. Probably because I’m not. Is that cold? I hope not.

I’ll leave you with a picture. If you’ve ever seen anyone more comfortable than this boy, I’ll eat my hat.
