Just wanted to share…

…the song that’s playing in my head today. Cool how God works.

words by Mark Hall/music by Mark Hall and Bernie Herms

I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
and it’s still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
“I’m with you”
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.

Chorus:
And I’ll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone how can I carry on
if I can’t find You
and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

Chorus

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earthAnd, I will, Lord. Even though it feels like we’re being pummeled from all sides right now and that the sadness will never end, I will praise You. Because the only way I can get through all this is by clinging desperately to You. So, this Saturday afternoon, I lift my hands to You and cry out my pain in praise – reminding myself that only You are God and while you may not calm the storm, You can & will calm me. Thank You for Your grace, mercy and love – evident even when we’re being crushed by life. This is the verse that Steve’s Bible verse of the day email sent him yesterday:

“Like the smelter for silver, and the furnace for gold, The Lord is a tester of hearts.” – Proverbs 17:3

It is only through refining that we grow – becoming more like Him.

“He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.” Malachi 3:3

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and caused them to wonder about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group. That week the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn’t mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were the hottest so as to burn away all impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot as she thought about that verse, “He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.” She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?” He smiled and answered, “”Oh, that’s easy- when I see my image in it.” If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

A friend shared this anonymous email with me and I share it with you. Let me add a comforting truth from Job 23:10

Job in the midst of his severe trials was able to say, “But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”
